Ode to the Potato

Winner, winner, potato dinner!

As Culinary Arts 1 students explore the world spices available to them, they were challenged with having an impromptu lab of each group receiving 3 potatoes and the rest of the recipe was completely up to them with access to any spices or ingredients found in our kitchen.

Measurement Mania

There are definitely times when you need to precise
measurements, especially when baking, but that requires having the skills and knowledge of proper measuring techniques.  In this lab, Family Foods students learned the benefits of complete recipes and using proper measurements by preparing Crunchy Munchy Peanut Butter Deliciousness where only the ingredients were listed without exact measurements.  Teams had to work together in determining the "right" proportions of each ingredient.  The good news?  Unlike most recipes, it will be delicious any way you make it (just don't go crazy with the salt!)

Side note: Who doesn't love the donated Pandora aprons???

Pa, Pa, Pa, PANCAKES!!! (If you sing this, it sounds better...)

Culinary Arts 1 students had an opportunity to play with the fave breakfast item, pancakes, with a twist.  Students prepared peanut butter pancakes with mixed berry syrup (tasted just like a PB&J- um num num), blueberry cheesecake pancake, and an apple pie pancake with maple syrup.  What a way to start off a semester!!!
