Green Bay Restaurant Week Kick-Off Event a Success!!!

What is Restaurant Week?
Green Bay Restaurant Week allows everyone to experience great food and prices that delight your palate and your wallet. This culinary event featured discounted prix fixe menus from 70 area restaurants. Food lovers simply dined out at as many participating restaurants as they liked during Greater Green Bay Restaurant Week July 9-16.

Restaurant Week Kick-Off Event
As an added bonus this year, the event partners graciously created a kick-off event to benefit the two largest high school culinary programs in the area, Pulaski and Preble High Schools.  All food and facilities were donated to the event and all proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the two high school ProStart programs.

As a friendly competition, each school will have 5 teams of 3 students planning and preparing 2 hors d'oeuvres, 1 hot and 1 cold, totaling 20 different appetizers for event visitors to sample and choose their favorite for the People's Choice Award!

Results:
The event was a HUGE SUCCESS! Ticket sales were phenomenal and the schools were only 8 tickets apart! Because of Preble's teacher, Laurie Spence, the ticket sales were split evenly.

The Wisconsin Restaurant Association Brown County Chapter donated an additional $1000 to each school's program!

I am just so tremendously grateful for Pulaski's program to be included for this event. It was a new and exciting challenge/opportunity that my students are already plotting for future years (I don't know who they get that competitive spirit from ☺).

NRAEF ProStart Invitational

Attending the National Restaurant Association ProStart Invitational was an educational experience in so many ways.  It’s amazing to see how much dedication, creativity, and pure talent ProStart students from across the country have and seeing our future leaders of the food-service industry. I was extremely proud of both teams that represented Wisconsin, Pulaski High School in the management competition and Badger High School (Lake Geneva) in the culinary competition.  Both teams were poised, professional, and made me proud to be from Wisconsin.

Although there was a healthy amount of stress, there was even more of pride because our Pulaski High School management team accomplished and learned so much leading up to the event.  I cannot provide enough thanks to all of the parents, business professionals, the Wisconsin Restaurant Association, and our especially our mentors, Chef Ben Raupp (SALT, De Pere) and Chefs Kelly Qualley & Josh Swanson (Hinterland, Green Bay) for all of their help.

Congratulations to Grant Bachman, Brooke Baron, Kaylee Court, and Hannah Stephanie for being such amazing team members whom I'm proud to say I'm your teacher.

Much love, -Moehr

WI ProStart Invitational and Midwest Food Expo 2014

It was an amazing and challenging year for Pulaski High School's ProStart team as four ambitious students decided to take on both management and culinary events.  The result? FIRST PLACE IN MANAGEMENT and an awesome effort in culinary, including first place in Dessert Presentation and second place in Dessert Taste.  I couldn't be more proud of Grant Bachman, Brooke Baron, Kaylee Court, and Hannah Stephanie.  Our journey will soon continue in Minneapolis, MN, May 4-6, when the team will compete at the National Restaurant Association ProStart Invitational in the management event while we cheer on Badger High School, Lake Geneva, WI in the culinary event. GO WISCONSIN!
